A Message from Parents of Instrumental Music Students (PIMS)
The Springfield School District Music Program is successful due to the combined efforts of a talented and caring teaching staff, hard-working talented students... and YOU, the parents! Please mark your calendars for the first of two yearly PIMS meetings, where we discuss and organize upcoming events. The meeting will be held in the ETR Instrumental Music Room (Rm. 160) at 7:00pm on Monday, October 5th. Hope to see you there!
Attendance Updates
Daily school attendance ensures students receive the full academic & social benefits of their educational program. Regular school attendance is also required by law.
Families are asked to plan vacations on non-school days. In a circumstance when that is not possible, an extended absence must be requested and approved in advance using the 'extended absence request form,' or it is coded as unexcused and subject to truancy proceedings. Excused absences for vacation are granted only if there is educationally significant reason for the trip and may not exceed 5 days.
If your child is marked absent, you will receive an automated call to confirm Excused Absences, or a personal phone call from our attendance secretary for Unexcused Absences. This confirms the absence and serves as a reminder to send in a written absence note if you have not already done so.
You can check your child's attendance in HAC. If there are any questions, please call Ms. Scelfo or Mrs. Speakes.
If you need to report a student's absence:
Use the link on the Scenic Attendance website linked here to submit a note to attendance each morning of your child's absence OR
Email scenic.attendance@ssdcougars.org each morning of your child’s absence with the following information:
Parent /Guardian name and phone number reporting the absence
The student’s name, grade, date of absence(s)
The reason for absence. A reason must be provided.
When e-mail is unavailable, absences may be phoned into the Attendance Hotline at 610-938-6610. If a phone call is used to report the absence, a written note or email must be provided within 3 days upon returning to school for the absence to be excused. Here is a link to a form that can be used for written notes.
Absences become Unexcused (UA) if a note is not received within 3 days of the absence or if the reason for absence is not approved for excuse. If your child has three Unexcused Absences (UA), you will receive a letter regarding the absences. Unresolved unexcused absences may result in attendance improvement conferences or truancy proceedings.

Absence Instructions
We recognize the importance of celebrating student birthdays, and we love to honor our birthday children by announcing their names on the morning announcements. Our teachers take great pride in making their students feel important on their birthdays as well. If you would like to send in something special to mark your child’s birthday, please send an item for the classroom such as a favorite book (signed and dated by your child) or other trinkets such as pencils, erasers, stickers, and the like. Due to the growing number of allergies and health concerns for our students, we ask that you please do not send in food treats for your child’s birthday.
Invitations for parties or other private events may not be distributed in classrooms, on school buses, or on school property. Your cooperation in this matter is critical to create a supportive atmosphere for each child and not one in which the feelings of any child are placed in jeopardy.
